Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), has stated that the majority of politicians in the halls of power have no cause to be there, comparing Nigerian politics to a situation in which the lunatics have taken over the asylum.

This was stated on Sunday at the Revival House of International Church (RHOGIC), Abuja-hosted Men of Valour conference with the theme “Navigating the corridors of power, the church, and the politics.”

Godwin Emefiele says he is not running for president

The former governor of Anambra State, who referred to seventy percent of Nigerian politicians as “lunatics,” stated that only a lunatic in government would steal N80 billion from the population for personal benefit.

He stated that Nigeria would continue to suffer unless these “lunatics” were replaced with competent individuals in the upcoming elections.

He stated, “We cannot permit this gangsterism to continue; Nigerians must reclaim their nation.” Seventy percent of persons currently involved in politics should not be there. I’ve said it: the Nigerian political system has been taken over by lunatics.

“This is the only nation where the worst is in the lead. I was a merchant before entering politics gradually. When you ingest significantly more than necessary, you become ill.

“How do you explain that a single individual stole N80 billion? It’s not greed; it’s illness.” It is greed to take one billion dollars, but it is disease to take eighty billion Nigerian naira. Politics have been taken over by lunatics. Things will change if we recruit young individuals with the necessary skills and abilities.

Obi stated that the people will determine if a third group could overthrow the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Regarding the general elections in 2023, Obi stated that prayers alone could not save the country.

According to him, Nigerians have fulfilled their religious responsibilities and it is now time to mobilise and vote for their preferred candidate.

“We have prayed long enough; now is the time to act.” With these individuals in power? You can pray till the end of time, but they won’t leave until you chase them away. Therefore, it is time to act, not simply pray. It is time to close the church and address these individuals.”

Obi also warned young people not to pursue a career in politics.

Vidiyano Bamaiyi, national secretary of the Young Peoples Party (YPP), characterised 75% of Nigerian politicians as “political bandits.”

Senator Albert Bassey stated that only through direct primaries could the nation abolish money politics.
