In Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, the police have slain a number of alleged kidnappers.

The incident occurred on Sunday when operators thwarted an attempt to kidnap an unidentified local citizen at Oko roundabout.

Oluchukwu Victor, a local resident, informed reporters that the criminals had been terrorising the region.

“Some military and police officers apprehended a group of kidnappers. “I was returning from Ekwulobia when the incident occurred,” he explained.

Sunday, the state police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the event in a statement.

According to him, police officers were dispatched to the region after learning that a local citizen had been kidnapped by criminals.

Mr. Ikenga, a deputy superintendent of police, stated that a number of kidnappers had been slain, but did not specify how many.

“After receiving information about a kidnapping that occurred on June 5, 2022, between Oko and Ekwulobia, the police launched a rescue operation that resulted in the neutralisation of some of the armed thugs,” Mr. Ikenga explained.

The police spokeswoman stated that the suspects’ operating vehicles were recovered by the operatives.

“The surgery is now ongoing. I will provide you with complete information as soon as possible,” he continued.

A video footage of the incident is currently being shared on WhatsApp groups.

In the video tape viewed by SHAUNTV, the lifeless body of one of the kidnappers could be seen lying in a pool of his own blood, while a vehicle thought to have been used by the kidnappers was parked nearby with its doors wide open.

Some voices, thought to be those of police officers, could be heard in the background cursing the corpse and making disparaging remarks about the charms discovered on the corpse.
