President Muhammadu Buhari has given his approval to the construction of three new polytechnics around the country.

According to a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Education’s Director of Public Relations on Tuesday, April 12, the new schools would be placed in Kano, Abia, and Delta states.

In a statement, Goong said:

“In line with his determination to make tertiary education more accessible, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) has approved the establishment of three New Federal Polytechnics in the country.

“The polytechnics are to be sited in Umunnoechi in Abia State, Orogun in Delta State and Kabo in Kano State.”

The new Institutions will begin academic operations in October 2022, according to the director.

This raises the total number of federal polytechnic institutes in the country to 36, with one in each state.

The new colleges were approved just weeks after the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics threatened to strike if the Federal Government did not revitalise the country’s current polytechnics.
