Five members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the militant wing of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), were slain yesterday, according to the Ebonyi State Police Command.

The camp is located in the Isu hamlet in the Onicha Local Government Area of the state, from which criminal suspects were expelled.

SP Chris Anyanwu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), told reporters at the command’s headquarters in Abakiliki that the criminals were tracked to their hideout by the police, the military, and the Department of State Service (DSS).

Monday’s attack on a police patrol unit resulted in the death of one officer, according to him.

Anyanwu reported that security personnel recovered, among other goods, three AK 49 rifles, 147 rounds of AR ammo, and 38 rounds of AK 47 ammunition.

He disclosed that the command also apprehended two infamous native physicians from Okpera Osege in Ndufu Echara Ikwo LGA of the state: Itumo Edeh Omukwor, 63, and Irem Ogbeji Nwaduma, 50.

The spokeswoman for the command urged the public to assist the police with information regarding the offenders’ activities.

“Members of the public are hereby urged to provide the police with information regarding the offenders’ activities and hiding places, with the assurance that their identities would be protected to the highest degree,” he remarked.
