Six people have been slain by gunmen suspected of being bandits in Karfi village, Takai Local Government area, Kano state.
It was reported that the gunmen stormed the village on the evening of Saturday, May 14 and killed the villagers and kidnapped the local chief, Abdulyahaya Ilu Sakin Karfi, 53.
According to a report by Daily Trust, the militants infiltrated the area on three motorcycles from the state of Bauchi via the Ringim forest in Jigawa.
After kidnapping the traditional leader, the attackers were already on their way out of the hamlet when the residents mobilised vigilante groups and youngsters to track them down.
The shooters reportedly turned around and opened fire on the trailing groups, shooting nine individuals, of whom six have been confirmed dead and three are reportedly responding to treatment.
SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, spokesman for the State Police Command, verified the occurrence and stated that operatives have been despatched to the LGA to rescue the abducted village chief and arrest the culprits.
