An army couple, Gloria Matthew and Linus Audu, were apparently decapitated in Imo state, as described by a family member.

Earlier, Shauntv stated that Gloria and Audu were on their way to “perform the traditional ceremonies for their wedding” when they were attacked.

The family member told the BBC misinformation unit that the two were attacked by four armed individuals near Banana intersection in Orlu, Imo state.

“It occurred around 3 p.m. They were travelling to Nkwerre from Lagos, a family source told the BBC.

The wedding was reportedly scheduled for May 2 in Nkwerre LGA, Imo state.

“Audu is from southern Kaduna, although he currently resides in Makurdi. Gloria is located in Sokoto. They landed in Lagos from Kaduna on April 26 to pick up Gloria’s mother so that they can go together to the traditional wedding ceremonies, according to a source.

The source was uncertain as to whether the incident occurred on April 30 or May 1, but stated that a photograph of Gloria’s death was posted on her WhatsApp status on May 1.

“On that day, they murdered Linus’s relatives. The leader of the armed men ordered the gunmen to fire. They murdered the couple in front of Gloria’s 10-year-old daughter and her mother, according to a source.

The army also confirmed the couple’s murder, adding that attempts are underway to apprehend the killers.

In a statement made on May 4, President Muhammadu Buhari called the killing of the soldiers as “barbaric.”

Buhari stated that security services had been ordered to “do their utmost to apprehend the perpetrators of these horrific atrocities and bring them to justice.”
