At least 48 people were killed when armed bandits raided three settlements in the state of Zamfara.

Sabon Gari Damri, Damri, and Kalahe are the localities in Bakura Local Government Area of the state.

Aminu Suleiman, the Sole Administrator of Bakura Local Government, confirmed the incident to Channels Television on Saturday, May 7, stating that a big group of motorcycle-riding bandits started an attack via Sabon Gari Damri village at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.

They then travelled to the Damri neighbourhood, where they killed four individuals, including a police officer and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps members (NSCDC).

In addition, the terrorists torched a Hilux truck belonging to the Nigerian Police.

The bandits then murdered eight individuals in Kalahe, a village located between Sabon Gari Damri and Damri town.

According to Suleiman, the bandits stormed a healthcare institution in the town of Damri and murdered a number of people who were seeking treatment there.

“The bandits, who were in great numbers and riding motorcycles with three individuals per motorcycle, attacked and killed four people in Sabon Gari Damri,” he claimed.

Gradually, they invaded the town of Damri, burned a Hilux belonging to the Nigerian Police, and murdered a Police officer and a Civil Defence officer.

According to the head of the Council, the military engaged in a fierce gun battle with bandits in the Damri neighbourhood, which led the bandits to withdraw back to Sabon Gari Damri and kill 26 people.

“Military personnel invaded the town and exchanged fire with the bandits, forcing them to retreat to Sabon Gari Damri,” he continued. “After killing nine people in the hamlet, they returned and killed approximately twenty-one more.”

Although the Council chairman stated that 48 individuals were killed during the attacks, other sources, including a former councillor, told Premium Times on Saturday afternoon that 56 people had been slain.

“We counted 56 individuals. In Damri, just three people were slain, a girl and two men, while the rest were slaughtered in Sabon Garin Damri and Kalahe. A portion of them did not reside in any of the two villages. “They travelled from other villages to celebrate Eid El Fitr with their family,” the councillor explained.

Usman Lauwali, another inhabitant of Bakura Town, also confirmed to the publication that 56 people had died in the three communities.
