Okechukwu Okoye, the representative for Aguata State Constituency 1 in the Anambra House of Assembly, has been kidnapped, according to the Anambra State police.
Mr Okoye, a native of Isuofia, the same community as Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, was abducted in Aguata on Sunday.
Toochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesman in Anambra, confirmed the incidence to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday.
The police reported that the lawmaker’s black Sienna SUV, which he was driving prior to the incident, had been recovered.
Mr. Ikenga, a deputy superintendent of police, stated that the police had begun a manhunt for the kidnappers in order to rescue the legislator.
Sunday, a member of a vigilante group on a motorcycle was killed in Oko, Anambra, according to a police official.
Mr. Ikenga stated that the deceased was not a police officer despite wearing a special security uniform.
He deemed the media allegation that the deceased individual was a police officer to be deceptive. He warned the public not to believe the story.
“On May 15, Anambra State Police agents discovered a lifeless body along Oko highway wearing a police T-shirt.
“According to preliminary evidence, the unidentified body is not a member of the Nigeria Police Force.
“In the meantime, an investigation has commenced to determine the identities of the deceased and the murderers,” he stated.
Mr. Ikenga stated that the police have returned the area to normalcy. He asked everyone to maintain composure and safety consciousness.
