One more person has died in the fire at the illicit oil refinery, increasing the total number of people killed in the accident to 110.

Ifeanyi Nnaji, NEMA’s Head of Operations, revealed that the most recent addition was a pregnant woman whose tummy burst, exposing the unborn child.

Remains of fatalities have been gathered and are awaiting mass burial, according to Nnaji, who described the scene as horrible.

He went on to say that they had been waiting for the Commissioner of Petroleum Resources and the Commissioner of the Environment to arrive as of Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m.

Nnaji said that so far, no one had been able to identify any of the victims since they were so badly burned.

“The bodies are rotting,” he explained, “so we’re waiting for the Petroleum and Environment Commissioners to arrive before we can perform the mass burial.

There are people from all over the country at the market, and since they were burned beyond recognition, it is quite impossible to identify them. After seeing one body, which they claimed looked like one of their own, a family arrived and buried it in accordance with customary procedures,” he writes.
