Two Catholic Reverend Fathers have been kidnapped in the state of Edo, a week after Christopher Odia, a kidnapped Catholic priest in Edo, was murdered.
Last week, Odia was kidnapped as he was preparing for mass at St. Michael Catholic Church, Ikabigbo community, Etsako West local government, Edo. he was the priest in charge of the church.
During a manhunt for his release, he was killed by gunfire.
Reverend Fathers Uboh Philemon of St. Joseph Retreat Centre and Rev. Fr. Udom Peter of Uromi Catholic Church, both of Ugbokha, Esan South East local government, were kidnapped on Saturday as they were returning to their parish following an event.
On the Benin-Auchi road between Ekhor and Iruekpen, between Ekhor and Iruekpen axis, gunmen reportedly ambushed the pair as they were returning from Benin to Ugboha after attending the programme. They were then spirited into the bush.
Chidi Nwabuzor, the Police Public Relations Officer in Edo, confirmed the incident when contacted.
He stated that the police received information about the abduction of the two reverend fathers from the divisional police officer of Ugboha, which was confirmed by the Reverend Father Emos Holiness of St. Dominic Catholic Church on Mission Road, Ugbokha.
Nwabuzor stated that the Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, had dispatched a team of police agents to conduct an intensive manhunt for the criminals in order to rescue the victims unharmed.
