A citizen of Katsina who observed the attack on President Muhammadu Buhari’s motorcade in Katsina State has described how he fled.
On Tuesday, we reported that a Buhari advance team was attacked near Dutsinma in Katsina.
According to Presidential Spokesman Garba Shehu, the Nigerian leader was not in the convoy at the time of the attack; nevertheless, security agents and an advance team travelling to Buhari’s hometown of Daura ahead of Sallah were targeted.
According to him, the attack was stopped by “brave presidential guards.”
A witness who said he was on the verge of being caught in the thick of the conflict revealed that he and others hid in a nearby bush.
The witness stated they were returning to Dutsinma from Kankara when they observed a group of bandits crossing the road on motorcycles and were forced to flee for protection.
He stated that some of them fled to the town of Turare, while others hid in the bushes, until they spotted a large military convoy that cleared the route for them to reach Dutsin-Ma.
Aminu Umar, an assistant commissioner of police in Katsina, was murdered by bandits earlier.
The deceased and his team mates were attacked while conducting a clearance operation in the Zakka forest of the state’s Safana Local Government Area.
SP Gambo Isah, the Police Public Relations Officer in Katsina, stated that Umar was killed in a battle between the police and over 300 bandits.
He stated that one other individual was killed in the incident, but he did not reveal the victim’s identify.
