According to MACBAN, the cattle breeders’ association in Enugu State, peace and security are its top priorities.

The South East Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, made the announcement in Enugu, Nigeria, on Sunday, according to a statement.

Due of distrust between herders and their hosts, he argued it was vital to make such a pledge.

The state’s herders, he claimed, were law-abiding and not a part of the security breaches that have occurred in various areas of the state.

A poor connection between Eha-Amufu villagers and herders in the vicinity of Isiuzo Local Government Area of the state is being resolved, he added.

This generated a rift between the herders and the community they were living in, as some of them were accused of illegal activity.

“This bad blood grew to the point that people were attacked and killed by hoodlums and the herders had no option but to relocate to neighbouring towns in Benue,” he claimed.

Siddiki, however, was pleased that the state government had taken the first step toward resolving the conflict peacefully.

Eha-Amufu residents, herders from Benue, Kogi and Enugu states, and the Isiuzo Local Government Area’s chief security officer were involved in a strategic discussion, he claimed.

There has been a lack of peace and security in the region, according to Siddiki.

Thank you Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for generating this synergy that has brought us together to sue for sustainable peace.

There will be no way for us to get into the host communities without this. A prayer was said by Siddiki, the governor’s chief of staff, before he left office.
