The first medal for Nigeria at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics has been won by Ese Brume. Bronze was hers in the long jump for women.


Malaika Mihambo of Germany won the women’s long jump, edging out Brittney Reese with her final leap.


Despite lying in bronze medal position before her final jump, Ishmael Mihambo jumped her season’s best of 7.00 metres.


With that, Reese – who led the competition with a best jump of 6.97m – had one final chance to regain the lead.


The American’s last jump resulted in a 6.84, resulting in her silver medal.
Ese Brume of Nigeria won the bronze medal with a best jump of 6.97m.
