Oyintare Ajanami, a popular nightclub in Bayelsa, has been released but his wife and father-in-law are still held captive after they paid the ransom less than what the kidnappers had demanded.
An exchange point in West Rivers State’s Ahaoda Local Government Area freed Ajanami from captivity a fortnight ago. Ajanami, 43, was abducted at his building site in Yenagoa.
Vanguard reported that the father and daughter dropped N15million out of the N200million demanded by the kidnappers.
The ransom exchange, which was kept away from security agencies, took place at about 11.45pm Thursday, but ran awry when the kidnappers insisted on the full payment of N200m ransom and held the father and daughter hostage.
A close family member who confirmed the incident said they were concerned, adding that the wife is hypertensive and was not with her medications at the time of the abduction.
Nevertheless, we are awaiting word from the kidnappers. We learned their Satellite Mobile Phone fell into the water during the ransom exchange, the source said.
According to the source, N15m was taken to the ransom exchange point. The kidnappers may have collected the money and then held the wife and her father to demand more money from the victim. We plead with the kidnappers to show mercy.
