In addition to the controversy, it has drawn criticism from some sections of the public; especially those from the South East region contend that the federal government is not putting as much effort into the fight against Boko Haram and bandits.

In their reactions, it is evident that they are unaware of the various air and land strikes by the Nigerian military against terrorists and bandits in the Northern part of the country.

As a result, the All Progressive Congress, Lagos State Chapter spokesperson, Joe Igbokwe, quoted a statement made by Abubakar Widi-jalo, concerning the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu.

The beginning of the statement says; “The most idiotic thing I’ve heard from people after Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest, is people saying “Government should put in the same effort to deal with Boko Haram and bandits” Really? So all the bombardment of Sambisa and other Boko Haram locations, and bandit hideouts, with Jet fighters, helicopter gunships and land troops, leading to the killing and arrest of many bandits (and terrorists) is no effort? Do you know how many security personnel we have lost in the fight against insurgents and bandits? Yet you say no effort is being made?
