Mr Obinna Iyiegbu, commonly known as Obi Cubana, a famous Nigerian businessman and philanthropist, has been chosen the 2021 Man of the Year by Nigerians both at home and abroad.
Obi Cubana was chosen ahead of three other candidates in a 14-day Leadership Excellence Awards voting conducted by Nigerians through online platforms and monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He beat Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr Tony Elumelu, Chairman of the UBA Group, and Mr Abdul Rabiu, Chairman and founder of the BUA Group, to get the post.
The philanthropist and performer won with 2,667,845 votes, while the other candidates received 1,015,224 votes, 848,652 votes, and 819,562 votes.
Obi Cubana is a philanthropist and humanitarian who comes from Oba, a village in Anambra’s Idemili-South Local Government Area.
After footage of his mother’s funeral went viral, he reportedly empowered 300 youngsters with N1 million apiece.
The African Union and the African Film Institute have approved the award, which is organised by IgbereTV.
The award recognises and honours leaders who have made a significant influence in both the public and commercial sectors of Nigeria.
The award ceremony for the 2021 edition, the third in a succession, is planned for Nov. 2 in Abuja.
