Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, says Nigeria’s next president will address the insurgency and banditry in the North in 2023.
Isiguzoro Okechukwu, its Secretary-General, said this in a statement Wednesday.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide pledged to northern elders and youths that if Igbo succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, the North would experience a peaceful atmosphere and robust economic development.
“We understand why the Northern Elders Forum and Arewa Consultative Forum want assurances from the South about what the North stands to gain if they succeed Buhari in 2023.”
“It is clear that the government’s inability to address the insurgency and banditry in the North is giving northern leadership nightmares; however, with Igbo investments worth N22 trillion and out of school northern children rising from 19 to 19 states, it is only a disciplined personality with Igbo entrepreneurial bravery and heroism that can restore normalcy to the north.
“The Arewa Youths do not seem to have a clearer understanding of the dwindling fortunes of the North. There are fears that ISWAP will take over the entire North with the reports that Borno state has two governors, one led by APC and the other by ISWAP.
Arewa youths believe Northerners succeeding President Buhari will strengthen insecurity in that region and secessionist movements in the South.
The election of an Igbo president in 2023 will undoubtedly restore Nigeria to the path of greatness and economic prosperity, as Igbo men and women of proven integrity and will power are in abundance to give Nigerians the good governance based on economic advancement that they need.”
