The Senate has rejected Lauretta Onochie as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Onochie was rejected following the consideration of the report of the INEC Committee, chaired by Senator Kabiru Gaya (APC, Kano).
Additionally, the Senate held off on approving Professor Sani Mohammed Adam until further legislative action could be taken.
Onochie’s nomination is in violation of Section 14 (3) of the 1999 Constitution on the Principle of Federal Character, so the panel recommended that she be disqualified as INEC National Commissioner.
Currently, there is a commissioner from Delta state, where Onochie is from.
