Samuel Ortom haOrtoms, Governor of Benue State alleged that governors of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) defecting to the All Progressives Congress(APC) are doing so to avoid prosecution from the Federal Government.

Sunnewsonline asked Ortom why PDP governors are defecting to the APC;

Politics, as defined by one of our greatest philosophers of all time, is a game of interest; there is no permanent enemy, no permanent friend. People are free to defect to any political party for whatever reason they deem appropriate.”

I was in the PDP when things did not go well with me, so I defected to the APC and won election in 2015; several others were carried along on my back when I defected to the APC and they won.”

“In 2017, when things were not going well and I was defending my people and some people felt that I shouldn’t defend my own people, I defected back to the PDP and also won election. So I have no issue with those defecting here and there. Nevertheless, the challenge is that those people must come clean because the former National Chairman of the APC said that if you defect to the APC, you will become a saint; even if you are a devil, you will become a saint.”

“So people who have mismanaged themselves or public property are afraid. And that is the weapon the federal government uses against us. I said no, I have no skeleton, let them bring it out. If you don’t do well, I will take you to court and we will dig it out.”

” I also heard about a minister in Nigeria, who is still serving at the moment, who embezzled a lot of money and bought an estate for $37million, while $20million was recovered from her house. We have been calling on the presidency to expose the Minister and let justice be served. But have you heard anything from them?”

In addition, I would challenge the EFCC Chairman, he is a young man, he should stand by his integrity and what he told us when he was confirmed.

Justice, equity, and fairness must prevail. The Minister should be unearthed; it is not enough to say a serving minister. He should tell us who that minister is and how far he is going about the investigation. Former governors are being prosecuted by the EFCC, but now that they are in the APC, everything is silent.”

What kind of justice are you advocating in this country? What kind of integrity is the presidency promoting?”

“The presidency should come out and tell us whether his hands are clean. In order to have equity, one must have clean hands. In this matter we are discussing, where are Mr. President’s clean hands? How can you accommodate people who are perceived to have criminal tendencies in your government, and tell me that nothing is happening? This is not what we bargained for. This is not what Mr. President stood for in 2015, which prompted Nigerians to elect him. “
