Authorities in Anambra state say they plan to arrest those who killed some policemen along Awada Road in Onitsha.
According to Dsp Ikenga Tochukwu, the state command spokesman, the command has intensified patrols and surveillance in the state, especially along the Onitsha axis aimed at identifying and arresting those responsible for the Sunday attack.
Gunmen killed unspecified numbers of police officers in Onitsha in the early hours of Sunday, setting their operational vehicle ablaze in the process.
The police investigation revealed that at about 9.30am on 19/09/2021, the attackers drove a sienna-colored vehicle and started shooting at the patrol vehicle near Ukegbu junction, Ezeiweka road.
According to him, one police inspector paid the ultimate price during the exchange of gunfire, while others were injured.
In an attempt to elude the police, the criminals set ablaze the patrol vehicle.
