Fresh attacks on villages in Katsina State’s Batsari Local Government Area have resulted in the deaths of several people and the destruction of many homes.

Dozens of homes, including government buildings and cars, were allegedly set on fire during the assault, which started Tuesday evening and continued until the early hours of Wednesday.

According to eyewitnesses, the armed men attacked at least five settlements, killing or injuring an unknown number of people.

Each community assaulted by the intruders was marked by gunfire, a source said. The gunmen then went door-to-door, plundering and harassing locals, a source added.

According to the report, some of the victims were injured while attempting to flee the attack of the gunman.

Hon. Jabir Yauyau, the Katsina State House of Assembly member for Batsari, said he had heard about the tragic events but was still collecting information.

The absence of a telecommunications network in the region has made it impossible to get information about what occurred, he said.
