Prince Uche Secondus, the Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), is currently at the Abeokuta, Ogun State, residence of former president Olusegun Obasanjo.
At 12:19pm, Secondus and his entourage arrived at Olusegun Obasanjo’s residence at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
In the meeting with the former president, he went straight to the point.
Our correspondent learned that the PDP Chairman’s visit is not unrelated to the internal fighting within the party.
As a result of the crisis rocking Nigeria’s top opposition party, Secondus is fighting for his seat.
PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) started to crack two weeks ago after some officials resigned and some NWC members called for Secondus’ resignation.
However, the PDP leadership including governors, the Board of Trustees (BoT), and National Assembly caucus intervened last week Tuesday.
The PDP leaders agreed to hold a national convention in October to elect a new leadership after resolving the crisis.
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, where Secondus hails from, has called for a change of leadership in the opposition party.
Despite Wike’s role in Secondus’ emergence, the two fell out due to a power struggle.
Obasanjo has withdrawn from partisan politics, but he still has a huge influence on the PDP.
Under the PDP, Obasanjo won two presidential elections.
