Inspector Ya’u Yakubu has been shot dead at Warawa Divisional Police Headquarters in Kano.
Sergeant Basharu Alhassan, his colleague at the division, is said to have killed Yakubu.
Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesman of the Kano state police command, confirmed that the deceased was rushed to Wudil General Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.
Kiyawa said the inspector was immediately arrested.
According to him, the state commissioner of police, CP Sama’ila Dikko, has ordered the suspect to undergo a medical test to determine his mental fitness.
“There was misunderstanding between the two officers, and as a result, the Inspector shot the Sergeant.”
Our preliminaries revealed that the Inspector didn’t even know how he killed his colleague, and that he could remember that the deceased laughed at him when he shot him. Thus, he was out of his senses when he committed this act,” Kiyawa explained.
The commissioner ordered that the case be referred to the state’s CID, Homicides Section, so they can conduct a discrete investigation into the matter.
