Senator Shehu Sani, who represents Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, has appealed to youths in northern Nigeria not to avenge the murder of the late APC Chieftain, Ahmed Gulak, killed on Sunday.
Gunmen shot and killed Gulak as he was en route to the Sam Mbakwe Airport in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
A statement issued by Sani on Monday condemned the gunmen’s action and said they were attempting to cause an inter-tribal conflict.
According to him, the fact that the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra disassociated themselves from the murder indicated that it was a purely criminal act.
Thus, he pleaded with his kinsmen in the North to avoid a major conflict with the Igbo by not avenging Gulak’s death.
Sani’s statement included the following: “The cold blood murder of Ahmed Gulak in Owerri stands unequivocally condemned.”.
The murder has all the hallmarks of an attempt to spark an inter-ethnic war between Northerners and Igbo.
“We must resist this plot. I believe the statement by IPOB distancing themselves from such an immoral and barbarous act, and even extending their condolences to the family of Gulak, can be accepted in good faith.
Police and other security agencies should conduct a thorough investigation and look beyond hurried finger-pointing. Ahmed Gulak Aljanna firdausi. Amin.”
