Three soldiers have killed an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Ekiti State.

Sunday Abutu, the Public Relations Officer for the Ekiti Command of the Police Command, described the killing as unfortunate and mindless.

He said the incident occurred at a hotel along NTA road in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, during an argument between some soldiers and a DSS official, resulting in the latter’s death.

The Command has begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, and the deceased corpse has been deposited in the  morgue.

According to an anonymous eyewitness, the DSS operative was stabbed in the neck and bled profusely, resulting in his death.

In his explanation, the incident was the result of an argument between the DSS staff and the soldiers after that young boy was arrested for internet fraud.

“When the soldiers who were inside the hotel were interrogating the suspect they believed to be a “yahoo boy,” the suspect saw the DSS operative riding a bike and called out to him for help.

Upon reaching the soldiers, a heated argument ensued between them, and one of the soldiers stabbed one of the DSS operatives in the neck with a knife.

“The DSS man fell immediately and began bleeding. According to the source, people inside the hotel were forced to flee to avoid being arrested.

Further, he said the soldiers were taken into custody by DSS operatives armed with guns minutes after the incident took place.
