Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal and his partner Georgina Rodriguez, who revealed in October last year that they were expecting twins, confirmed on Monday that one of the two newborns had died.
“It is with great regret that we must inform you that our newborn boy has died,” Ronaldo and Rodriguez announced in a joint statement on social media. “It is the most agonising anguish that any parent can experience.”
“Only our baby girl’s birth gives us the strength to survive this time with some hope and happiness,” they stated.
The couple, who requested privacy at this difficult time, thanked the physicians and nurses for their exceptional care and support.
Ronaldo, a five-time global player of the year, returned to Manchester United last year after winning many trophies with Real Madrid and Juventus.
