The Police Service Commission has suspended Abba Kyari, the Deputy Commissioner of Police and Head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force.
Ikechukwu Ani, the spokesman for the commission, announced the suspension in a statement.
“Abba Kyari’s suspension took effect from Saturday, July 31st 2021 and will be in effect until the outcome of the investigation into the indictment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States.”
The Commission also requested that the Inspector General of Police provide information about further developments on the matter so further action can be taken.
The Commission’s decision was conveyed today, Sunday, August 1st, 2021, in a letter with reference to PSC/POL/D/153/vol/V/138 to the Inspector General of Police. Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, retired Justice of the Supreme Court, and Honourable Commissioner 1 in the Commission for Alhaji Musiliu Smith, retired Inspector General of Police, who is currently on leave,” the statement read.
