Ebonyi Governor Dave Umahi has asked God to bless the country with a “good heart” like President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

During an interactive session with State House correspondents after meeting with Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Governor Umahi expressed this wish

It is too early to engage in politics of 2023, he said, describing it as a distraction to the president and state governors.

But he said members of different parties from the South East were working within their parties to ensure that they conceded their presidential tickets to the region.

“Well, for me, I’m very entrenched in my projects and am looking forward to completing them,” he said when asked whether South East leaders were working to get the Presidency zoned to the region.

After my one-year tenure ends on May 29, 2022, I will look into politics. It is the same with other governors of the south east and by extension, the governors of APC.

“I believe our people in those political parties are doing the best they can to sell the need for the south-east to produce the next president.

But I believe both the governors and Mr. President should not be distracted. After elections are completed and won, governance should begin. The moment the election is over in this country, the next one begins and it is the masses who are being cheated.

So, those who do not have elected positions or appointed positions and whose jobs are not political can also engage in canvassing. And I think that doing it and that doing it very well.

“But I will continue to say that God’s power rests in His hands. Additionally, God will grant us a future president with good intentions like President Buhari to lead our nation well.

“We need God’s own anointing for our own anointed president for the interests and unity of this country.”
