Major-General Hassan Ahmed, a member of the Nigerian Army, was killed in Abuja, Ahmed, who was recently appointed director at army headquarters, was shot and killed in the Abaji area of the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday night.
According to a family member, the assailants kidnapped his wife as well.
When the couple was ambushed, they were returning from Okene in Kogi State.
According to Brig.-Gen. An army spokesman confirmed Ahmed’s death, Onyema Nwachukwu.
According to him, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Yahaya, Farouk, had already sent a delegation to convey condolences to the victim’s family.
Mrs Stella Omozoje, Deputy National President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), also visited the family to offer condolences.
A statement read, “With a heavy heart, the Chief of the Army Staff, The Nigerian Army regrets to announce the passing of Major-General Faruk Yahaya. Hassan Ahmed is a former Provost Marshall of the Nigerian Army.
The senior officer’s vehicle was attacked by gunmen while transiting along Lokoja – Abuja road yesterday 15 July 2021.
“A delegation of the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army) Maj.-Gen. Anthony Omozoje visited the widow and other members of the family.
“Members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) led by Deputy National President, Mrs Stella Omozoje, have also visited the family in condolence.”
A report stated that ACP Ajayi’s remains will be buried at the Lungi Barracks Cemetery in Abuja by 10am on Friday.
