Travellers have been shot dead in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State. Shauntv learned that the victims were passing through Jos when they ran into gunmen who opened fire on their vehicles.
At the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of some of the victims were unknown.
The morgue at Plateau Specialist Hospital has been notified that at least 15 corpses have been deposited.
A passenger who survived the attack, Muhammad Ibrahim, said the attackers attacked five 18-seater buses in a convoy.
The two said they were returning from Bauchi State where they attended a celebration of the Islamic New Year.
Ibrahim said the event took place at the mosque of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi in Bauchi State.
He said that they encountered the armed gang at Gada-Biyu in Jos North Local Government Area.
ASP Ubah Gabriel, spokesperson of the State Police Command, told Daily Trust that security operatives had been deployed in the area.
However, he added that he did not have any information regarding the incident, and that he would follow up once he had more information.
The hospital was busy treating some victims when our correspondent visited and referred others to Jos University Teaching Hospital.
Prof. Danladi Atu, Secretary to the Government of Plateau State, and the State Commissioner of Police, Edward Ebuka, were also at the hospital.
