The police report that 73 students were abducted from Government Day Secondary School, Kaya.

Gunmen invaded the school in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara on Wednesday morning, according to Daily Trust.

Mohammed Shehu, the Police Public Relations Officer in Zamfara, said that security has been stepped up in the community where the incident occurred.

It is with regret that the Police Command of Zamfara state informs you that 73 students of Government Day Secondary School in Kaya, Maradun Local Government Area, have been abducted.

“The abduction followed an invasion of the school at exactly 1122 hrs. by a large number of armed bandits,” reads the statement.

In preparation for the safe rescue of the abducted students, CP Ayuba N Elkanah has deployed a search and rescue team that will work alongside the military.

To forestall further attacks on the communities, security has also been beefed up at Kaya Village and its environs.

“Public members will be informed of future developments,” he said.

Governor Bello Matawalle ordered the closure of some markets and roads the day before the attack.

Furthermore, he had directed filling stations to limit the amount of fuel sold to vehicles.

Zamfara schools have been closed, and a dusk-to-dawn curfew has been imposed.

In the North West, bandits are causing havoc.
