In the wake of Monday’s collapse in Ikoyi, Lagos, the dead toll from the 21-story building has grown from 22 to 36 people.
Three of the 36 people who have died have been female, while the other 33 have been male.
Ibrahim Farinloye, NEMA’s South-West Regional Coordinator, claimed that just one woman was among the nine people who had been rescued. The other eight were males.
“Of the nine survivors, one is a woman and the others are men. There are three women and thirty-three men among the deceased.
“Rescue work is still going on, and additional hands have joined the rescue squad,” he continued.
The owner and a few construction workers were buried in the wreckage of a collapsed building on Gerrard Road in Lagos’ fashionable Ikeja neighborhood on Monday.
