Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), strongly condemned the killing of a group of Muslim refugees returning from Bauchi to Ondo on Saturday.
Director of Administration, NSCIA, ARC. Zabdi Haruna Usman-Ugwu said in Abuja on Sunday that this was a case of mistaken identity and not intended for Muslims, adding that the council appealed to all Muslims to maintain calm and that no one should take the law into their own hands.
We reaffirm that no human life deserves to be wasted for any reason, be it religious or ethnic. As part of the probe, the Council will make sure that justice is served,” Usman-Ugwu said.
Meanwhile, he continued, “the council urged the security agencies to find all those responsible for the dastardly acts and ensure that justice was meted out,” referring to the eight missing Muslims.
Accordingly, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called for the arrest and prosecution of all those responsible for the killing.
In a statement issued Sunday, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, the Director, MURIC, made the announcement.
“MURIC strongly condemns this massacre. It is barbarous. The Irigwe Christian militia must be rounded up immediately.
The Plateau and Ondo governors who claim this attack was mistaken identity were crocodile tears and lies. The first sign of executive conspiracy is this excuse. The fact that Akeredolu trivializes the massacre of Muslim citizens of his own state is a shame.
“Lalong’s body language makes it difficult for us to trust him,” he added. His kinsmen are the culprits, and he has a history of covering up their crimes. Therefore, he will sweep this case under the rug at the earliest opportunity. General Alkali’s killing is still fresh in our minds, particularly the attempt at coverup, the comedy at the pond, and the intervention of the governor, who ran to army headquarters to ask for forgiveness.
“We thought that Jos’ lawlessness had ended with the declaration of remorse. The massacre of so many Muslims today has exposed the hypocrisy of Lalong and his bloodthirsty terrorists. If the police and soldiers had not arrived on time, all the Muslims in the convoy of five buses would have been killed and their bodies would have been thrown into the ponds around Jos as usual.”
