The United Kingdom has claimed that it is working to get consular access for Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), almost four months after he was arrested and held by the Department of State Services (DSS).

In response to the Daily Sun’s inquiry about Kanu’s ongoing trial, Dean Hurlock, Head of Communications, British High Commission, Abuja, said the UK government does not comment on ongoing legal proceedings, but that the British High Commission was in contact with the Federal Government, Kanu’s family, and his legal team.

“We have continuous touch with Nigerian officials, as well as with his family and legal representation.” We are taking precautions to ensure consular access.”

Kanu is on trial before Justice Binta Nyako on terrorism, treasonable crime, and inciting charges.
