Three police officers were killed inside a police station in Unwana, Afikpo North Local Government Area, Ebonyi State. A policeman and two inspectors were among those killed.

The shooters were masked, according to a Uwana local who did not want to be identified.

He said that one of the assailants was killed during the incident, which took place in the early hours of Sunday.

“They murdered three police officers, one constable and two inspectors, and the police killed one of the shooters,” he claimed.

“No one knows who the shooters are, but the bodies of the deceased cops have been transported to the morgue.”

“The event occurred at 2 a.m.; nobody knows where the hoodlums came from.” For almost ten minutes, all we could hear were gunshots. There is currently no evidence available to determine if they damaged or stole anything from the police station.

“The guys were disguised, but the one who was slain had his face revealed by authorities to determine his identification.” The dead hoodlum had crimson clothing that was knotted around his waist.”

Mr. Aliyu Garba, the state commissioner of police, neither disputed nor verified the claim when approached.

He directed our reporter to DSP Loveth Odah, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), who did not react to our enquiry.

According to Daily Trust, certain elected political authorities, including the council chairwoman, Barr. Mrs. Obiageri Oke-Enyim, as well as councillors and LGA coordinators, visited the station before midday to examine the situation.

The assaults on police stations in Ebonyi are becoming a weekly occurrence in the state.

According to the Daily Trust, unidentified hoodlums raided the Ohankwu Police Station in the state’s Ohankwu local government area last week, killing a police sergeant.

The assaults have been placed on suspected militants of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), although they have denied responsibility.
