Tiv Youth Council Worldwide (TYCW) says Governor Samuel Ortom’s constant attacks on President Muhammadu Buhari are distractions.
On Wednesday, the group’s president, Hon. Mike Msuaan said the organization reviewed Ortom’s performance in the last six years and concluded he failed miserably.
Ortom was told to collaborate with the Federal Government to consolidate the relative peace in the state rather than embark on a political campaign meant to “consolidate his stranglehold on the state”.
It would be interesting for the general public to compare notes on the ongoing or completed projects to which the governor has contributed.
“Governor Ortom has several Memorandums of Understanding to his credit, none of which have been made public. He cannot pretend to fight for or defend the people of Benue State when he has failed to secure their lives as he swore to do.
Governors who preside over state security meetings and host security votes for the state are crassly inept when dishing out blames as though they were elected to checkmate the President.
“Ortom constantly reminds Buhari of his campaign promises to Nigerians while forgetting that he cried in churches over the plight of workers and pensioners, which is getting worse under him. “Under Ortom, old pensioners slept outside the government’s gate for two weeks, yet the Governor hasn’t taken action,” he said.
A Governor who has been in office for less than 16 months is not bothered about his non-performance, but is constantly occupied with frivolities such as decamping ceremonies and burials he insists on attending in order to deceive the Benue people.
He said, “The Council notes that Governor Ortom has not demonstrated love for the Benue people more than President Buhari. Within these years, Buhari has in addition to giving several Benue people appointments, constructed a multi-billion erosion control that runs through Achusa. Buhari has awarded the Yandev-Makurdi Road, the Yandev to Ugbema junction road, the makurdi-Naka-Adoka road, the rehabilitation of the River Benue and River Katsina-ala bridges and others.
“We call on all Benue stakeholders, traditional leaders, groups, and party leaders to speak truth to power and call Governor Ortom to order,” Msuaan said.
