Police in Ogun state have advised people to avoid holding prayer sessions in the forest to avoid being kidnapped.
The command reported that people are still holding prayer sessions in the forest despite warnings that this makes them easy prey for kidnappers hiding in those forests.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police, stated in part: “There is no point in organizing prayer sessions at isolated locations at the moment due to the present security situation.”
A police spokesman said the command was working to get rid of kidnappers.
However, Oyeyemi urged the general public to refrain from creating opportunities for them to operate.
The public was encouraged to play an active role in protecting themselves, adding, “after all, the scripture even enjoins us to watch and pray.”
“If there are any compelling reasons for undertaking such prayers, the organizers are advised to consult the nearest police station for advice and possible security patrols.”
