Senator Ademola Adeleke, the governor-elect of Osun State, has stated that the reason the state government owes wages and cannot pay pensioners is because so much of Osun State’s money is moved to Lagos.

This was announced by Adeleke during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today.

Adeleke was named governor-elect of Osun State by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday, after receiving the majority of votes cast in the state’s governorship election.

He stated, “I’ve stated before that paying wages is not an accomplishment; if people labour, they must be compensated. What you bring to the table to better the economy, the IGR, might be considered your accomplishments. During a debate with outgoing Governor Oyetola, I stated that paying salaries is not an accomplishment; have you helped the economy?

“What I will do is work with pensioners and retirees; I will sit down with them and hold a meeting. Okay, they owe you this amount of money and everything. The reason they cannot pay you is because a great deal of our money is leaving the country; by this I mean that a great deal of our money is taken to Lagos or elsewhere. Therefore, I will stop these leaks.”

Adeleke, who was obviously moved, stated that his brother, Isiaka Adeleke, perished in the process of liberating the slaves of Osun State.
