The All Progressives Congress (APC) is in disarray after national chairman Senator Abdullah Adamu announced Senate President Ahmed Lawan as the consensus presidential candidate.
Monday in Abuja, Adamu made the statement during the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting.
Other candidates, including Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and David Umahi, among others, will be permitted to compete in the primary at tomorrow’s convention in Eagle Square, Abuja.
Members of the NWC emphasised that other candidates must be given an equal opportunity to compete.
Adamu’s selection of Lawan as the consensus candidate is in opposition to the attitude of eleven APC northern governors, who supported a power transition to the South at the conclusion of President Muhammadu Buhari’s term.
Adamu told the National Working Committee that he consulted with President Buhari before selecting Lawan.
