The minister addressed the media after a facilities assessment tour and stated, “The attack began around 10:30 p.m. They came in large numbers, gained admission to the prison, and released several inmates, whom we are now observing to determine the type of inmates they released.

“Very soon, we will provide you with the precise number of prisoners who were abducted. Aside from that, we are investigating what we can do to assure the return of all escapees.

“The Prison houses approximately 994 convicts, and over 600 have fled. Numerous individuals have been recaptured and returned to prison. Perhaps by the end of the day, additional animals will have been captured and returned.

“Everything appears to be under control. The records indicate that the individuals who participated in this activity belong to a specific group. They are most certainly Boko Haram members, as we have a large number of Boko Haram suspects in custody and cannot locate any of them.

I estimate that there were 64 inmates in the prison, but none of them are presently available because they have all escaped.
