Bandits, he added, arrived in the area on motorcycles around 11:46 p.m. on Tuesday, armed with sophisticated weapons, and opened fire erratically.

Usman claimed that five villagers were slain while trying to flee from the robbers who were operating violently amid random gunfire.

In total, he added, the bandits kidnapped eight people, including two housewives.

According to Usman, four more people were shot and sent to a private hospital in Gulu town for treatment. In addition, some rural residents who escaped the assault have sought safety in Gulu.

At the time of his words, four victims who had been shot were being treated in Gulu town.

He claimed the robbers also ransacked stores, including pharmacies, stealing merchandise like food, medicine, and alcohol.

Upon being reached, our reporter was advised to give Niger State Police Command spokesman ASP Wasiu Abiodun time to learn more about the event from the DPO in command of Lapai division.
