The community of Kpampo, located in the Lapai administrative region of Niger state, was attacked by bandits on Tuesday night, with five people being killed and eight others being kidnapped.
Shuaibu Usman, a local of Gulu and a relative of one of the abducted victims, spoke on the phone with our reporter on Wednesday to corroborate the occurrence.
Bandits, he added, arrived in the area on motorcycles around 11:46 p.m. on Tuesday, armed with sophisticated weapons, and opened fire erratically.
Usman claimed that five villagers were slain while trying to flee from the robbers who were operating violently amid random gunfire.
In total, he added, the bandits kidnapped eight people, including two housewives.
According to Usman, four more people were shot and sent to a private hospital in Gulu town for treatment. In addition, some rural residents who escaped the assault have sought safety in Gulu.
At the time of his words, four victims who had been shot were being treated in Gulu town.
He claimed the robbers also ransacked stores, including pharmacies, stealing merchandise like food, medicine, and alcohol.
