Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has given over leadership to Umar Iliya Damagun, the party’s Deputy Chairman (North), despite the fact that there are still unsolved conflicts inside the party.

Simon Imobo-Tswam, Ayu’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, announced Tuesday night that the Chairman will be out of the country till the end of the month.

Ayu’s motivation for travelling to Europe and her final destination remain unknown.

Before the official start of the campaign on September 28, 2022, the PDP is likely to announce its campaign council.

This means that Ayu may be absent when the party formally launches its campaign council and the 2023 general election campaign.

The PDP has been in disarray since Atiku Abubakar won the party’s presidential primaries and nominated Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate, despite the fact that others in the party prefer Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.

Wike and his supporters have been at odds with Ayu and Atiku on their desire to see a southerner replace the National Chairman as party leader.
