Just 24 hours after the IGP, Usman Alkali Baba, toured the roadway, bandits stormed some residences in Anguwar Maji, Jere town, and abducted 22 locals.
Jere, in Niger State, is on the important Abuja-Kaduna Highway.
Shehu Bala, a resident of Anguwar Maji, verified the latest kidnapping over the phone to our reporter on Monday.
He said the criminals, armed with AK-47 rifles, raided some houses and abducted 22 people, including five women.
“The bandits came in droves, some in army clothes.
”They woke their victims up and marched them into the jungle at gunpoint,” he added.
He said the bandits remained silent for nearly an hour.
He claimed that they simply shot randomly to deter others from pursuing them after they left the community.
Bala said one of the 22 kidnapped victims escaped his captors by running into the bush.
The Kaduna State Police Command spokesman, ASP Mohammed Jalinge, could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
