In the wake of the attack on his convoy on Sunday, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah (YPP-Anambra South) has confirmed the deaths of several of his personal and security aides.
On Sunday night, as Ubah’s convoy was making its way from the city of Onitsha to his rural home of Nnewi in Anambra State, it came under attack in the Nkwo Enugwu Ukwu Market axis.
Gunmen opened fire on the convoy and left many members of the convoy dead including other persons at the scene of the incident.
The senator, who verified the incidence to newsmen on Monday in Awka, claimed the assassins killed one Obum Ikechukwu and Goodness Mathias.
Ubah said that some of his police and DSS security staff had also been killed.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Anambra State Command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the event but did not provide a number of casualties.
“There were blood streaks at the spot indicative of the fact that the attack was bloody, but to provide the number I can say nothing on that,” said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Echeng Echeng, who inspected the scene.
