Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, an Islamic cleric based in Kaduna, has claimed that Nigeria does not need a novice but an experienced nationalist as its next President.

He claimed that both Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had the necessary political and administrative expertise to lead the country.

While speaking to media on the next general elections and the state of the nation yesterday in his Kaduna home, Gumi compared and contrasted the three leading 2023 presidential candidates: Tinubu of the APC, Atiku of the PDP, and Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

The Islamic scholar praised Asiwaju Tinubu, claiming that the ex-governor of Lagos State would make an excellent President due to his administrative skills.

But the religious leader claimed that the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket was only a vote-getting stunt.

Excuse me while I speak Hausa. Rather than being a religious act, this is an act of wayo (strategy). I don’t want to make any predictions about whether or not it will succeed.

Still, there are numerous obstacles. In reality, though, every political faction has challenges. The Muslim-Muslim ticket will serve as a test case for whether or not other such tickets will be successful.

In response to Atiku, Sheikh Gumi stated it was perfectly acceptable for politicians to run for office multiple times till they win.

Nigeria requires a seasoned political leader. No one should be elected President who is a complete newbie to politics. A seasoned politician is required to fix the current crisis in Nigeria, he added.

The Islamic cleric also addressed Peter Obi, saying, “Youth following him are divided, like the grownups. A broader base of Nigerians has to be reached by him. We can’t only count on today’s youngsters to carry us. He can’t just focus on politics in one area; he needs to be everywhere.

He urged his fellow Nigerians to put aside their differences and work together for the country’s betterment.
