Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade has stated that he will work for former President Goodluck Jonathan if his party chooses him as its presidential candidate in 2023.
Jonathan is reportedly contemplating running for president under the All Progressives Congress banner (APC).
Addressing State House Correspondents immediately after entering the race on Tuesday, the South South’s sole APC governor stated that he will remain loyal to the party regardless of the outcome of the primaries.
“Because I have the utmost regard for President Jonathan, I face no obstacles.” I think that our party’s leadership will select the most qualified candidate to lead us to victory.
“And therefore, if you heard me correctly, I am just a member of the president’s family who is considering running for president. Furthermore, I am on the go. However, if the political leadership of my party, the APC, believes that President Jonathan is the most qualified candidate to lead us to victory, I will withdraw my support.
“I will never, ever oppose the establishment, the institution, the aristocracy, or the spiritual vortex inside which God has set a country’s leader.” I will never put a country’s leader’s authority into question. I’ve never engaged in animosity or combative politics. If you’re curious about how I became governor, I became governor by promising to back anybody the governor desired and, by chance, I was chosen as the candidate.
“By the same token, I am here just to support the president’s nominee, and by chance, he added, you, too, go there and enter the race and let me see.”
