Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a renowned Islamic scholar, has advised the federal government to pay ransom to the terrorists holding the 62 abducted Abuja-Kaduna train passengers.
Thursday in Kaduna, he spoke during special prayers organised by Jama’iyyar Matan Arewa (JMA) for the victims.
On March 28, terrorists had assaulted the train, murdering nine people and kidnapping 62 more.
Gumi stated, “Imagine now that people are paying up to N25 billion for forms, rather than utilising the funds to pay ransom for impoverished Nigerians who cannot pay.” Whatever they want, give it to them so that they will release these people, and once they do, you will have your freedom.
“You have the opportunity to treat them as they deserve since, when they have captives, you must step carefully so as not to harm their captives.”
Reverend Joseph Hayab, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kaduna State, urged officials to do the right thing and ensure the safe return of the victims in his speech.
Hajia Rabi Musa Saulawa, the president of JMA, stated that the association had chosen to organise special prayers for the safe return of the victims and the country in general.
The Daily Trust claims that Muslim and Christian leaders attended the prayer session.
