(Dr.) Abubakar Malami, SAN, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has dismissed rumors that he has expressed interest in running for governor of Kebbi.

There have been rumors that Malami is interested in succeeding Governor Atiku Bagudu, but several outlets stated on Tuesday morning that the minister had entered the race.

Malami refuted the reports in a statement made on his behalf by Dr. Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, his Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations.

“As a result of a misleading and falsified publication in some sections of the media, clarification was required.

“According to Gwandu, declaring a political candidacy was never a secret or covert activity that might be portrayed as a scoop by a segment of the media. He claimed that the news was sparked by followers’ and loyalists’ curiosity and excitement.

“A video purporting to be the supposed proclamation was mischievously translated with manufactured insertions and interpolations that cannot establish the circulating misinformation in spirit and context.”

“However, he complimented the Minister’s team of supporters as well as the general public for expressing their interest.”

“They will hear from the horses mouth in full front of the media, stakeholders, like-minded people, party faithful, and teaming supporters,” Gwandu said.
