N1.4bn it supplied to Niger Republic authorities has to be returned, according to SERAP, and the money would be used to offset ASUU financing.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the purchase and donation of N1.4 billion worth of vehicles to Niger Republic, Nigeria’s government said on Wednesday, August 3.

The Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, claimed that the donation was made to help Niger handle its security issues after this discovery.

In response, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), a civil society organisation, tweeted: “The Buhari government must immediately urge Niger Republic authorities to refund the N1.4 billion allowed for them to buy automobiles and use the money to offset the financing for ASUU.”
