Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, a former Chief of Army Staff, has stated that he has no connection to the property confiscated by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC, in the Wuse 2 neighbourhood of Abuja.

The commission disclosed last week that some property, including exotic cars, had been seized, but neglected to identify the owner.

During the execution of the search warrant, a Mercedes-Benz 2022, Bulletproof G Wagon (voice modified), valued at NI50 million, and a BMW vehicle were recovered.

Shortly thereafter, it was reported that the confiscated property belonged to the previous CoAS.

Buratai, through his legal counsel Ugochukwu Osuagwu, rejected the report as untrue during a news briefing.

During the briefing, he stated, “We have reviewed the aforementioned publication and obtained the opinion of LT Gen. T.Y. Buratai (Retired), and we can affirm that the aforementioned book is packed with falsehoods and is fabricated.

“Lt. Gen. T.Y. Buratai has no connection to the aforementioned assets or the aforementioned K Salam Construction Company Nigeria Limited. These are fabrications intended to libel Lieutenant General T.Y. Buratai.

“First, in a press release dated June 24, 2022, the ICPC denied LT. Gen. T.Y. Buratai’s involvement in their probe of the Wuse 2 Property.

“Secondly, in a letter dated Monday, June 27, 2022 and signed by A.G. Abubakar, the Corporate Affairs Commission unambiguously exonerated LT Gen.T.Y. Buratai of any association with the aforementioned K Salam Construction Company Nigeria Limited.

“Messrs. Muhammed Ahmed Sallau and Sallau Kabiru are the proprietors of the aforementioned business.

“Thirdly, a check on the FRSC website for the Mercedes-license Benz’s plate, ABJ98BH, is incorrect. Checks indicate that the claimed Plate number corresponds to a Toyota Corolla with a custom paint job.

“We thus utilise this forum to urge individuals attempting to politicise a purely investigative subject to exercise restraint.

Now that the ICPC has cleared the air on this subject, it would be absurd to attempt to politicise it.

He stated that Buratai had already taken action against individuals who propagated misleading information.
